We're looking for an experienced web developer to join the team at Manta Ray, ideally in Hoxton, London (as soon as we're allowed back to the office) but we're also considering fully remote. You'll be building content and data-rich websites for our lovely, interesting clients in the UK, Europe, Africa and the US; organisations like the World Health Organisation, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Global Fund. We're looking for someone who enjoys working in a multi-disciplinary team environment to help solve complex problems.
As one of our team you will work on complex and custom functionality using Drupal and other web technologies. With a broad range of experience you should be able to contribute to and support the wider development team.

Essential skills

  • Strong face-to-face and written communication skills
  • 3+ years of experience in web development
  • Proficiency with PHP & Symfony
  • Solid grasp of JavaScript, jQuery, HTML5, CSS3 (+ some pre-processor, eg. SASS or LESS)
  • Twig and Bootstrap (or any other flex-based framework)
  • Comfortable with use of Composer and Node.js
  • Working knowledge of Git
  • Solid understanding of programming principles and design patterns
  • Experience working with containerised Docker environments / virtual box / Vagrant


  • Good understanding of Drupal architecture, experience with Drupal 8/9
  • Experience in any other PHP framework, CodeIgniter, Laravel, Zen
  • Ability to write custom Drupal modules, understanding of hooks, services and dependency injection
  • Drush and/or Drupal Console experience
  • ECMAScript 6+ experience
  • Basic Linux CLI administration and LEMP/LAMP stack configuration

  • Producing high-quality re-usable code
  • Maintaining existing websites and applications, enhancements and updates
  • Translating scope and requirements into technical solutions
  • Contributing to technical decisions to influence direction of projects
  • Work with and share knowledge with other developers
  • Follow best practices within the team
  • Contribute to open source community

Salary & benefits


£30,000 to £40,000 per annum (in line with experience)
