THIS WORMY WORLD: A new global atlas to transform deworming programmes

Aug 17, 2010
GAHI | www.thiswormyworld.org

We are very pleased to announce www.thiswormyworld.org - a global atlas of helminth infection - is now live.

This atlas web site is a unique, open-access, free information resource vital for planning and implementing deworming programmes. The maps show the distribution and prevalence of worm infections in every African country and by the end of 2010 maps will be available for all other countries.

Dr Simon Brooker, the founder of the project, is today announcing This Wormy World at ICOPA in Melbourne, Australia, the culmination of gathering this data for over a decade by his team at LSHTM and Imperial.

We believe we have created a modern atlas that is easy to use, will facilitate the contribution of new data and is able to evolve and grow into a global atlas of all neglected tropical diseases, the teams' longer-term goal.
